Princeton Attorney New West Virginia Association for Justice President
June 24, 2015
Charleston, W.Va. – Princeton attorney Paige Flanigan was elected president of the West Virginia Association for Justice at the organization’s annual convention earlier this month. She opened her own practice, Flanigan Law Office, in Princeton in November 2014.
“It is a great privilege and honor to serve as president of the West Virginia Association for Justice. For more than fifty years, its membership has included many of West Virginia’s leading attorneys, and it has been a state leader in educating attorneys and protecting access to the courts for West Virginia residents. I look forward to leading this work in the year ahead,” said Flanigan.
Flanigan has focused her practice in the area of family law for more than 10 years, and she has one of the largest family law practices in southern West Virginia. Her practice areas include divorce, child custody, spousal and child support, and motions for modifications to existing judicial orders.
Raised in Princeton, Flanigan is the daughter of former Mercer County delegate Richard Flanigan and Sylvia Flanigan. Her parents instilled in her the importance of hard work and helping others. Their nightly conversations over dinner focused on politics, legal issues and current events. This led Flanigan to study political science and philosophy at Concord College.
“As an undergraduate at Concord I wasn’t sure what I wanted to pursue professionally, but I kept coming back to the law and how it would allow me to help others and serve my community. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was the right fit,” said Flanigan.
She earned her law degree from Ohio Northern University. She clerked with the Princeton firm of Sanders, Austin, Swope and Flanigan, and began her practice with there after graduating. She worked with the firm for 22 years and rose to partner. The firm was Sanders, Austin, Flanigan and Flanigan when she left to open her own firm last November. She was joined at Flanigan Law Office by her cousin, Ryan Flanigan, earlier this year. In addition to family law, the firm’s practice areas include all aspects of civil plaintiffs’ litigation and criminal defense.
“I owe everything to my parents. From the time I was very young, they taught me about the importance of justice and helping others who couldn’t help themselves. They taught me to be honest and forthright. They taught me to do what is right—even when it may not be what’s most beneficial for me. My father’s service in the legislature showed me how one person can make a real difference in the lives of others in our community. Those are the values that guide every aspect of my life and my practice. It’s what I take into the courtroom every day and what I want to pass on to my own children.”
Flanigan is the mother of two. Her daughter, Kate, just completed her junior year at West Virginia University, where she is majoring in English. Her son, Matt, will be in his junior year at Princeton High School this fall.
