What We Do
Membership
The West Virginia Association for Justice is the only statewide, voluntary Bar association for attorneys and paralegals practicing civil plaintiffs' law in West Virginia. WVAJ is dedicated to providing our members with the programs, services and resources they need to represent their clients effectively in our state and federal courts.
Legal Education
For more than 60 years, the West Virginia Association for Justice has been the premier continuing legal education provider for attorneys and paralegals. Our substantive seminar programs provide legal updates on diverse areas of the law as well as provide information on cutting-edge trial strategies and settlement tactics. Programs feature leading plaintiffs' attorneys in West Virginia and nationally, providing opportunities to learn from the foremost legal experts in their fields. CLEs are provided through conventions, special seminar programs and online through SeminarWeb.
Experience
There is no substitute for experience. One of the most valuable resources we offer is immediate access to other WVAJ members--members with extensive experience and special areas of expertise who can help you when you need it. Through our general and practice area listservs, members get information, share ideas and post questions about cases, strategies, experts and resources.
Advocacy
The West Virginia Association for Justice is the only organization in West Virginia whose mission is to preserve the 7th Amendment right to trial by jury in civil cases, protect the civil justice system, and ensure access for all to our state and federal courtrooms. WVAJ Governmental Affairs works with officials at all levels of government on legislation and regulations that affect the civil justice system. We also work to increase consumer protection, employee rights and workplace safety. Through WVAJ's Amicus Curiae program, the association monitors state and federal appellate courts and submits amicus ("friend of the court") briefs in significant matters of concern to members, their clients and the people of West Virginia.
Public Education
The West Virginia Association for Justice educates Mountain State residents about the courts, the civil justice system and the 7th Amendment right to trial by jury. This effort includes special programs for schools, community and civic groups and small business associations. Through its media relations program, WVAJ counters misinformation about the civil justice system.
