west virginia association for justice
The mission of the West Virginia Association for Justice is to uphold and defend the Constitutions of the United States and West Virginia; to preserve and improve the civil justice system; to protect the right to trial by jury; to protect West Virginia families by promoting safe workplaces, safe products and services, quality healthcare; and a clean environment; to improve the quality of legal representation through legal education and training; to encourage mutual support and cooperation among members of the bar; and to uphold the honor and dignity of the legal profession and the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity.
Founded in 1959, the West Virginia Association for Justice represents more than 500 plaintiffs’ attorneys working throughout West Virginia and in surrounding states. Our members are committed to preserving and improving our civil justice system in order to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct and negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms. We work to protect West Virginia families, workers and small businesses by promoting safe workplaces, safe products, quality healthcare, a clean environment and corporate responsibility.
Our member trial lawyers help West Virginians exercise their constitutional rights in our state and federal courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful individuals and corporations. Every day they seek justice in our courts for those who have been harmed by the conduct and negligence of others.
WVAJ and its members are committed to quality legal representation of West Virginia clients. Our association provides continuing legal education, amicus support and other critical legal resources for both attorneys and paralegals. The association works closely with the West Virginia Bar and the state’s other voluntary bar associations to ensure cooperation and mutual support among Bar members as well as preserve and protect access to our state courts.
In both our courts and at the statehouse, there is an unprecedented attack on our 7th Amendment right to trial by jury. It is being led by billion-dollar special interests that believe that they are above the law and should not be held accountable when they harm West Virginians. They want total immunity when they refuse to pay fair insurance claims, produce dangerous products, put employees in unsafe working conditions, damage our environment or hurt West Virginia businesses. WVAJ challenges these attacks in both our courtrooms and in the halls of the legislature.
WVAJ also educates West Virginians about the importance of the civil justice system and their legal rights.
