Consumer Advocacy Organizations
Below are links to both in-state and national organizations that work to protect access to our civil justice system as well as lead the fight for important consumer and workplace safety laws.
West Virginia Citizen Action Group
Since 1974, West Virginia Citizen Action Group (WV-CAG) has been one of West Virginia’s leading advocacy organizations for West Virginia residents. CAG organizes coalitions on issues and gives a voice to those who have no professional lobbyists representing them at the state legislature. Its issues include: health care reform, taxation reform, utility reform, good government, ethics, election reform, fair drug pricing, victims rights, women's issues, environmental protection and consumer advocacy.
Center for Justice and Democracy
The Center for Justice & Democracy is the only national consumer organization in the country dedicated exclusively to protecting our civil justice system. CJ&D works full-time to make sure average Americans get a fair shake in court, even against the country’s most powerful special interests. It exposes unscrupulous attacks by special interests on judges, juries, injured consumers and the attorneys who represent them and works to raise public awareness of the value of our civil justice system and the dangerous campaign behind the so-called “tort reform” movement.
The Pop Tort
The Pop Tort is one of the leading blogs in the country on the importance of our civil justice system and why we need to protect it. Read about important cases, who is really behind the attacks on our courts and why we need to protect access to the civil justice system.
Public Citizen
Public Citizen is a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumer interests in Congress, the executive branch and the courts. It fights for openness and democratic accountability in government, for the right of consumers to seek redress in the courts; for clean, safe and sustainable energy sources; for social and economic justice in trade policies; for strong health, safety and environmental protections; and for safe, effective and affordable prescription drugs and health care.
Consumer Watchdog
Consumer Watchdog (formerly The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights) is a nationally recognized consumer group that has been fighting corrupt corporations and crooked politicians since 1985. Over the years, Consumer Watchdog has saved Americans billions of dollars and improved countless peoples' lives by speaking out on behalf of patients, ratepayers and policyholders.
American Association for Justice
The American Association for Justice is to promote a fair and effective justice system—and to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.
